Car Accident Injuries
What should you do when you have been injured in a Car Accident?
Remain calm, determine if you or others in your car have any injuries, contact 911 to request the Police and/or Emergency Medical Personnel, make sure you have stopped in a safe area before getting out of your car.
Gather Insurance Information and Other Details of the Accident
Once out of your car, if you are able to, you should record the accident scene, the placement of the vehicles, and the damage to all vehicles involved with a camera (most cell phones have a camera). Also note the names, addresses and phone numbers of all persons in all vehicles, and any injuries complained of, as well as any witnesses to the accident. This information may not make it onto the police report, and it is important for a law suit.
Make sure to get the insurance information for any other drivers involved in the accident regardless of who’s at fault, as well as their driver’s license number, vehicle license tag, and vehicle identification number.
Make sure to report any injuries to the investigating police officer, and seek medical treatment immediately. Delaying your treatment can cause further injury to yourself, and damage your claim.
File a Police Report
Always file a police report, no matter how big or small the accident! The police officer’s observations and opinions may be important in resolving the case. When discussing the accident, remain calm and do not admit any fault.
Contact Your Insurance Company
Call your insurance company as soon as possible to file a claim, even at the scene of the accident. Have your vehicle damage evaluated as quickly as possible. Make sure to get a thorough estimate of all the damage, as the higher the estimate the more seriousness of the accident and thus the bigger impact it has on negotiating a claim.
